Lucid Reality Labs Triumphs at AWE 2025 with Double Auggie Wins and Epic AR Theme-Park Showcase

Lucid Reality Labs has been honored with two prestigious Auggie Awards at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2025 in Long Beach. The company captured the Best Use of AI award for its Medical AI Agent and the Best Climate Change Solution award for its Burn Zone: California Wildfires experience, affirming its leadership in immersive solutions that drive real-world impact. Additionally, Lucid Reality Labs led a panel with Blue Origin, Boeing, and Collins Aerospace on how spatial computing is reshaping heavy manufacturing, presenting how, together with Universal Destinations & Experiences, the company created an ecosystem of adventures utilizing its powerful Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

Double Auggie Awards Winners

Double Auggie Winer

This year, the winners of the 16th Auggies were chosen in 20 categories and from 466 nominations. Lucid Reality Labs secured two wins in this highly competitive race. Here’s are the winning projects:

  • Medical AI Agent. Lucid Reality Labs’ Medical AI Agent, created for Medtronic, is a one-of-a-kind solution that unlocks the power of AI for highly complex healthcare training. AI digital twin of Dr. Patrick Schoettker, a renowned anesthesiologist with over 20 years of expertise, serves as a real-time decision support system. It delivers expert feedback, reduces human error, and brings life-saving medical education to places where it’s needed most. By continuously updating its knowledge base with the latest peer-reviewed research, the Medical AI Agent provides expert feedback and decision support, thereby reducing human error and expanding access to life-saving medical education in underserved regions. According to the British Journal of Anaesthesia, over 400 participants confirmed that simulation is an effective training tool, with 65% of clinicians indicating a willingness to adopt it. The University Hospital of Lausanne will integrate the AI Agent into its anesthesiology residency to train thousands.
  • Burn Zone: California Wildfires. Designed to bridge the empathy gap between distant observers and frontline responders, this VR experience immerses users amid smoke-choked streets, hovering helicopters, and crackling flames. By vividly portraying the human toll and environmental devastation of the 2023 Los Angeles wildfire season, Burn Zone galvanizes charitable giving, policy advocacy, and volunteer mobilization, transforming passive viewers into active climate advocates, compelling humanitarian action, boosting donations, and community engagement.

The winners’ trophies were presented by legendary Nicole Stenger, one of the World’s first VR Artists. She emphasized that “Burn Zone: California Wildfires” is a project that creates history and helps leave a lasting legacy for future generations. Renowned VR pioneer Tom Furness, also known as the Grandfather of virtual reality (VR), founder of the Virtual World Society, presented the Best Use of AI statuette, noting, “This year’s AI award honors a project that not only pushes technological boundaries but also transforms lives for the better.”

“These accolades affirm our bold vision and our clients’ willingness to ‘try the impossible,’” said Alex Dzyuba, Founder & CEO of Lucid Reality Labs. “From medical training to climate resilience and entertainment, XR and AI together can unlock profound societal benefits. We’re honored to see healthcare professionals, climate advocates, and theme-park fans embrace these immersive solutions.”

Showcasing AR Theme-Park Innovation

In addition to its Auggie success, Lucid Reality Labs took the AWE stage to reveal its recent collaboration with Universal Destinations & Experiences on “Epic Realities: Revolutionizing Theme Parks with AR Magic at Universal Epic Universe.” Through live demos and behind-the-scenes footage, the team demonstrated how AR-powered portals and interactive previews extend the park experience beyond physical lines, bringing rides, storytelling, and guest engagement into the home.

Lynn Welch, Chief Growth Officer, and Daniel Daugherty, Director of Product and Innovation at Lucid Reality Labs, emphasized that this project was a true collaboration aiming to “meet audiences where they are, blending digital innovation with the timeless magic of Universal Studios.”
